Laser Skin Resurfacing

Board Certified Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons

The skin begins to show its age as it loses its volume and elasticity. Sun damage, dark spots, old acne scars, large pores and wrinkles are all signs of aging. At Oasis Medi-Spa we use a state-of-the-art Fraxel laser. Fraxel laser skin resurfacing helps skin with mild, moderate or severe damage.

Fraxel is a laser skin rejuvenation treatment that resurfaces your outer skin, erasing imperfections. It also encourages the production of collagen, a protein found in connective tissue. Collagen is instrumental in maintaining firm, youthful, healthy-looking skin, but its production drops off as we age. The result is clearly visible lines, folds and wrinkles.

Fraxel laser skin rejuvenation is a non-invasive technique that affects only about 20 percent of the facial skin exposed to it. It works by creating tiny wounds in the dermis, the dense inner layer of skin where collagen is produced; the top layer of skin (epidermis) remains undamaged. As the dermis heals itself, old skin cells are sloughed off and collagen regeneration occurs, resulting in improved skin tone, appearance and elasticity.

The Fraxel laser is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for a number of rejuvenating treatments for the face, neck, chest and hands. We offer both the Palomar 1540 Fractional Laser and 2940 Fractional Laser. Both are excellent choices if you want to diminish fine lines and wrinkles without the long periods of down time required for CO2 lasers. The difference between the two is the wavelength of light emitted during treatment.

Who is a Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Men and women who have concerns about aging, skin color discoloration, fine lines, wrinkles, prevention of wrinkles or acne scarring are perfect candidates for laser skin resurfacing.

What is the Recovery like from Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is performed either in our office or in the operating room. Skin surface wrinkles and pigmented spots are easily removed with our powerful Fraxel or CO2 lasers. These intensive treatments can make facial skin look ten to fifteen years younger.

Patients who require less aggressive laser resurfacing are normally treated in our office with numbing cream. Patients who need a more aggressive treatment may require an operating room setting to achieve positive results. Often, this is performed with another procedure to ensure the best visible results (a facelift or eyelid surgery, for example).

Recovery from laser skin resurfacing varies with each patient. Recovery includes redness that may last from a few days to several weeks. Mild discomfort may be common the first week after the procedure. Our experienced surgeons reduce bruising and recovery time with the application of state-of-art techniques and the use of homeopathic or herbal options. Detailed postoperative and aftercare instructions will be provided to each patient.
