Poughkeepsie Vaginal Rejuvenation (Labiaplasty)

Double Board Certified Manhattan Plastic Surgeons

Poughkeepsie labiaplasty, commonly called vaginal rejuvenation, is for women who have large or uneven labia. Large labia often cause women to experience discomfort while wearing jeans, exercising or being intimate. Women with large labia may feel self-conscious with their bodies and undergo this procedure to obtain a more aesthetically pleasing labia.

For woman with large or uneven labia, labiaplasty could alleviate discomforting symptoms and emotional distress. Our highly trained, double Board Certified Poughkeepsie plastic surgeons understand this is a very personal and private issue and tailor the entire process to your needs.

Labiaplasty is the reduction and/or reshaping of the labia minora and can be done as a single procedure to address a naturally enlarged labia or as part of a Poughkeepsie Mommy Makeover to correct an enlarged labia after delivering a baby. This procedure can also be combined with clitoral hood reduction that can potentially change the look and feel of the clitoris in the upper part of the vagina.

Who is the Best Candidate for Poughkeepsie Vaginal Rejuvenation or Labiaplasty?
Typical candidates for vaginal rejuvenation are women who have developed significant labial changes postpartum or who have always had large and/or irregular labia majora, minora or both. There is no standard shape for genitalia; however, many of our patients express dissatisfaction with having a more prominent labia.

Candidacy requirements for labial reduction may include:

  • Being 18 years of age or older
  • Having physical discomfort while sitting, exercising or having sex
  • Being self-conscious due to labial size or appearance
  • Having labial tears resulting from childbirth

In certain instances, patients younger than 18 with significant irregularities may be considered for labiaplasty.

What is the Recovery Like from Poughkeepsie Vaginal Rejuvenation or Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure usually performed under local anesthesia. After surgery, women may experience some mild discomfort and swelling, which usually disappears completely after 1-2 weeks. Labial incisions usually heal well and are rarely noticeable. As with any operation there are certain risks. The most common risks include bleeding, infection and scarring. Although these events are usually infrequent, they sometimes can occur.

Patients may return to work usually 3 to 4 days after surgery. If you have more than one procedure you can usually return to work in 6 to 7 days. It is strongly recommended that you use no tampons, no thong underwear or have sex for about 6 weeks. Complete healing may take up to about 3 months. Detailed postoperative and aftercare instructions will be provided to each patient.
