The Brazilian Butt Lift (aka, BBL) is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed worldwide. The procedure involves removing stubborn fat cells to create a slimmer waist and abdomen and then transferring the stubborn fat cells to the buttocks, hips, and thighs to create a more curvy, flattering, and feminine physique. It requires small, easily concealable incisions, and, with modern techniques, swelling and bruising during the recovery period is minimized.

Brazilian Butt Lift FAQs

Men and women who are (1) healthy, (2) want to eliminate excess fat from specific areas of the body, (3) have good skin tone/quality in the areas of concern, and (4) have realistic expectations are excellent candidates for liposuction.

All of our procedures are performed at our office in our JCAHO-accredited surgical suite. In other words, your surgery will be performed in a facility that has met the same standards as a hospital!

A BBL typically takes five to six hours or less to complete and is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis.

A BBL begins with removal of stubborn fat cells (via liposuction). This is followed by cleaning and purification of the fatty tissue. The final step is re-injection of the fat into the buttocks, hips, and thighs.

Dr. DelMauro utilizes several small incisions hidden in your natural folds and creases.

Contrary to popular myth, BBLs are very safe and have a complication rate comparable to tummy tucks / abdominoplasties. And, since your safety is our top priority, we have invested in state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and techniques as well as world-class training and meticulous attention to detail to deliver on our priorities.

Manual lymphatic massage is a special type of massage that is thought to stimulate lymphatic flow and hasten the resolution of postsurgical swelling. It is an essential component of the rapid recovery protocol. For this reason, patients who undergo liposuction with Dr. DelMauro receive multiple complementary manual lymphatic massages at Oasis MediSpa with certified specialists.

Dr. DelMauro often transfers fat to the hips and thighs—but not the buttocks—at the same time as a tummy tuck / abdominoplasty.

With Dr. DelMauro’s rapid recovery protocol, most patients experience mild discomfort and aches after BBL. However, the speed of recovery depends largely on your ability to follow the rapid recovery protocol. Most patients are able to return to their normal daily routine and work within 3-5 days. (However, patients are advised to avoid various activities for several weeks after surgery. Additional details will be discussed with you by Dr. DelMauro and is explained in the postoperative instructions provided to each patient.)

Yes. Typically patients wear a compression garment for six to eight weeks.

Yes. In order to maximize the amount of fat that survives transfer to your buttocks, hips, and thighs, you should not put any pressure on the buttocks, hips, and thighs for at least 14 days.

The number of fat cells in your body is set during puberty/adolescence and remains constant throughout adulthood. When fat cells are removed from one area and transferred to a new location, the original area does not grow or develop new fat cells. Additionally, the fat cells that have been transferred to the new location continue to function as if they were still in their original area. In other words, if you typically gain weight in your abdomen and those abdominal fat cells are transferred to your buttocks, your buttocks will increase in size when you gain weight.

The massage therapist, Dana, is terrific! She thoroughly knew what I needed, and I look forward to my next appointment! One topic I'd like to address: the massage therapy room needs to be larger. I’ve felt this way ever since it was changed. (I remember my first massage(s) in one of the larger rooms & after that, we moved to the “walk-in closet-like” space.) It’s a bit odd hearing phone conversations or other people talking at the desk. Perhaps the lounge area doesn't need to be the size it is? Just a thought.

I had a great massage from Geoffrey. He has a refined, intuitive touch and used that talent and a lot of patience to painlessly release muscle tension. Sometimes I like a vigorous massage and I’m sure he could do that if I asked, but today I need a softer touch and time to work out tension. I was grateful to see him for my treatment today.
